When we acknowledge, befriend, and listen to the parts of us that feel like they are sabotaging our success and happiness (inner critic, judge, procrastinator, controller, planner, pessimist, overeater, drinker, distractor, etc.), we ultimately experience a profound shift. We often discover that they are parts of us in extreme roles that are usually formed at a young age. These parts feel like it is most important to protect us from feeling the flood of shame, abandonment, loneliness, fear, etc. After working with, and getting to know these protective and scared parts, they begin to feel understood and often free to transform their roles in our system. Our systems ultimately realign and integrate, and more spontaneous, playful and joyful sides emerge. We then find ourselves more in tune with our confidence, compassion, courage, creativity, connectedness, and clarity. This modality is evidence based and is sweeping the nation. PSYCHODRAMA
GROUP FACILITATOR 2012- CURRENT
In Psychodrama we explore the experiences in our lives that hold trauma and pain. We explore this through reenactment using other group members. This enables us to create the scene/scenes through the eyes of the protagonist (the person chosen to work),exactly as they remember it. We use role reversal, empty chair, mirror position, doubling, and sharing. Often people reenact scenes with family members, co workers, partners, friends, people who have passed, parts of themselves, etc.
They are able to express the feelings they were not able to at the time, and say what they never had the chance to say. This is a wonderful way to heal unfinished business, connect to unmourned feelings, and often have a do-over. Watching the scene through "the mirror position", which is almost like watching it as a play, offers incredible insight and clarity. Throughout the process of the drama, it is common to connect to our inner children (yes, there's more than one)! These younger parts of us yearn for our attention and acknowledgement. This work is incredibly deep and very rewarding.
